A psychological horror game built on restraint rather than jump scares. It gets under your skin and stays there.

The best horror understands that fear lives in anticipation, and The Long Quiet is a study in exactly that. It almost never resorts to a jump scare. Instead it builds dread through sound, silence and the awful patience of a house that seems to be listening back.

A few puzzles are more obtuse than they need to be, and the third act sags slightly, but the overall craft is remarkable. Play it alone, at night, with headphones — and regret nothing except doing so.
