An ambitious tactics game with brilliant ideas and rough edges. The core is excellent; the presentation needs another pass.

Ironclad Tactics has more good ideas than it knows what to do with. Its positioning systems are genuinely fresh, rewarding players who think two turns ahead, and the mission variety keeps the campaign from settling into routine.

The problem is presentation. The interface fights you at every menu, the difficulty lurches without warning, and a handful of missions run twice as long as they should. None of it is fatal, but it keeps a very good tactics game from becoming a great one.
